Clinical studies on Osvalin

The final report of clinical trial in analysis of Osvalin® effectiveness in improvement of symptoms among patients with osteoarthritis of knee
Osvalin Clinical Trial

Silicon has a positive effect on health maintenance and formation of bone as well as all types of connective tissues. A supply of utilizable silicon leads to the formation of a higher bone density. Studies show that silicon deficiency leads in impaired bone metabolism.

Silicon in the form of orthosilicic acid stimulates the production of collagen type 1 and leads to the regulation of osteoblast formation. It could be observed that the supply of hydrolysed silicon has a stimulating effect on bone formation.

For more than 30 years, the positive impact of silicon is described on the bone formation mechanism in scientific reports. English and American Studies show an increase in bone density in individuals who have taken the silicon in the form of dietary supplements. The results lead to the conclusion that silicon is an essential element and an undersupply leads to impairments.

In a large study with 2847 participants, the first time a link between the dietary supplementation of silicon and increase bone density could be observed. In men and younger women an improvement of the bone structure is achieved in particular in the area of cortical bone.

- [4] R. Jugdaohsingh; Dietary silicon intake is positively associated with bone mineral density in men and premenopausal women of the Framingham Offspring Cohort; J of bone and Mineral Research (2004) Volume 19; Number 2, 297-307

The natural absorption of silicon is higher at men than in women. With increasing age of the population, absorption and utilization of silicon from natural sources, such as food sources, decreases and leads to a lower supply with silicon by increased age.

Evaluations of scientific studies and trials show potential therapeutic and biological effects in bone formation and increase of bone mass. In addition, positive effect in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, immune deficiency, skin, hair and nail weakness can be reported.

Because of the nutrition situation in North America the supply of silicon is partly inadequate and may lead to bone problems such as osteoporosis and low bone density. It is important to balance these deficits by suitable supply of utilizable silicon.

Bone and bone formation are a dynamic system. It is a combination of reduction of old, worn bones by osteoclasts and new bone formation by osteoblasts. An imbalance of this process leads to decreased bone mass and unstable bones. Biologically active silica in nano form can influence osteoclast and osteoblast formation and thus affect the balance of bone formation in positive way.
